Privacy

This is a website for a walking group of about twenty people. It is not a business and there is nothing to sell you, so the short version is that we hold as little as we can get away with.

What we store

Your phone number, because it is how you sign in. Your name, so other members know who is coming. A photo, if you upload one. And which walks you have been on, which is the point of the site.

There are no passwords for ordinary members. If we already know your number, signing in sends a six-digit code by text and entering it is what proves the number is yours. If the number is new to us, there is no code — you go straight in as a pending guest and wait to be approved, so a brand-new account is not proof that the number belongs to whoever typed it. Approval is a person recognising a name, not the site verifying a phone.

Who can see it

Your name, photo and attendance are visible to other signed-in members. Walk routes, places and dates are public. Your phone number is not shown to anyone — only the group admin can see it, in order to run the site.

Who else gets it

Your phone number goes to Microsoft Azure Communication Services, which sends the sign-in texts. The site is hosted on Microsoft Azure in the UK. Nothing is sold, shared with advertisers, or used to track you anywhere else, and there are no analytics or advertising cookies on this site.

Walk pages embed a route from Strava and a map from Google Maps. Those load from Strava and Google, so those two companies will see that a browser requested them.

How long

For as long as you are in the group. Ask and it goes — see below.

Getting it removed

Ask in the group chat or speak to Glen, and your account and everything attached to it gets deleted. You do not have to give a reason and nobody will make it awkward.
